Derrick has a dark former life filled with addiction, crime, failed business ventures and many moral failings. He thanks God every day for pulling him out of the pit and placing him on the solid ground called Jesus Christ. Those who run against Derrick point to these mistakes and failings as reasons not to support him. That is exactly why he wrote his best selling book, From Death to Destiny. In the book he disarms the enemy by laying out his past in detail before it can be weaponized against him. That time of his life was the groundbreaking learning curve that made him such a powerful leader today.

Derrick was a Corporate trainer and mediator for L.M Berry Companies' direct marketing division, Berry Direct (a Fortune 500 company). He was responsible for developing and training the customer service department, the senior sales department, and also for training and developing the management teams. He was also a mediator between the company and other corporate clients.

Derrick was a Senior Mortgage Broker handling multi-million dollar real estate acquisitions in both residential and corporate markets.

Derrick has been in ministry over the last 18 years, and he has personally counseled thousands of hurting individuals, families, and marriages. Derrick has kicked in doors and pulled addicted people out of crack houses and taken them back to families. He sat bedside with families, holding them as their loved ones slipped into the next life.
 
Derrick has celebrated with families at the best moments and cried with them in their worst.
 
Derrick has 18 years of community relations work in ministry. Derrick continually participated in programs to help our communities become safer and better for our families. In doing this, Derrick worked side by side with city, state, and federal leaders to bring solutions to community problems.

Derrick developed and oversaw programs to help homeless people get off the streets, the addicted get clean, and prisoners become productive citizens.

Derrick was a member of the reentry team for the Probation and Parole Department in Kansas City. They were tasked to find appropriate housing and programs for those being released from prison and placed back into society.

Derrick has been leading on the frontlines since 2020, fighting for the constitutional rights of every American citizen. He has been threatened with jail countless times for exercising his first amendment rights of freedom of speech, freedom to protest, and freedom to worship.
 
He courageously stood openly and boldly before church leaders who were being manipulated by the government to shut their doors due to the pandemic. Derrick helped church leaders and small businesses come up with strategies based on Biblical standards and the Constitution in order to keep their doors open. 

Derrick opposed Antifa face-to-face countless times, was assaulted, pepper-sprayed and bear maced. Despite this, Derrick has always endeavored to build bridges of hope with the same people.​
